Open Access Week

Open Access Week is October 19-24, 2009, and is devoted to raising awareness about open access to research. To learn more, go to www.openaccessweek.org. In celebration of Open Access Week, the Electronic Green Journal (repositories.cdlib.org/uclalib/egj), which recently published its 28th issue, will debut a new interface. Readers will be able to fully take advantage of this new interface when the next issue of the Electronic Green Journal is published in December 2009.

The goal of the Electronic Green Journal is to provide an alternative to costly, commercially-produced scientific journals. EGJ aids international scholarly communication by providing a freely accessible forum for the exchange of environmental information. The Electronic Green Journal has been an open access publication since its founding in 1994 and is currently published by the UCLA Library.

The Electronic Green Journal, along with the other journals hosted on the California Digital Library’s eScholarship platform, will debut a new web interface on October 19, 2009. The new interface is designed to help readers discover related content on the eScholarship platform and includes Web 2.0 functionality such as creating RSS feeds for articles or journals.

LSA Book Sale

The 41st Annual Library Staff Association Book Sale will be held November 4th and 5th on the portico of the Young Research Library. The Book Sale will run from 9am-3pm each day, with 9am-10am being limited to UCLA students, staff and faculty. There will be a wide variety of books and other media for sale. As always we will have our "books by the foot" and "books by the bag" afternoon sales.

The Book Sale will be accompanied by the famous LSA Bake Sale. Please contact Jan Goldsmith (jan.goldsmith1@gmail.com) if you wish to participate.

LSA is always accepting donations of books. Please contact David Poepoe (dpoepoe@library.ucla.edu) or Dan Palodichuk (dpalodic@library.ucla.edu) with any questions regarding donations. We need volunteers to work one-hour shifts 8am-4pm the day at the Book Sale. If you are interesting in helping out drop David a line.
