Three Endowments Established in the East Asian Library in 2009
Thanks to the generosity of donors, the Richard C. Rudolph East Asian Library has established three new endowments in recent months.
- The Sammy Yukuan Lee Family Endowment for Chinese Archaeology and Culture ($30,000). Howard and Norma Lee are long-time supporters to the East Asian Library and have given funds to enhance the Library’s Chinese archaeology collection in the past years. Now they have established an endowment which will provide funds every year.
- The Man-Hing Chen Memorial Endowment ($130,000). Mrs. Man-Hing Chen was the first head of the East Asian Library (then Oriental Library), 1948-1976. Her niece Maxine Yue with husband Kin Wu wanted to honor their late aunt who did so much for the Yue family and loved her work in the UCLA Library.
- The Nubo Huang of Zhongkun Group Cultural Endowed Fund ($100,000). The gift from Mr. Nubo Huang represents the first gift to the East Asian Library from an individual who lives in the People’s Republic of China.
During the time of global economic crisis, the East Asian Library is particularly fortunate and appreciative to receive these gifts.
