ACRL/IS Mentoring Program

The Association of College & Research Libraries Instruction Section (ACRL/IS) Mentoring Program is up and running. The program pairs experienced teaching librarians with librarians new to instruction or simply pairs teaching librarians who want to share ideas. The program is intended to be a forum for learning opportunities, networking, and new ideas.

The Mentoring Program Committee is currently seeking both mentors and mentees. Participation is primarily virtual, though there will be opportunities to meet in person at American Library Association (ALA) Annual and Midwinter conferences. Mentoring pairs will be matched after the Annual conference this summer. Deadline for applications is June 20, 2008. Participants must be ACRL/IS members.

Sign up and see more information about the program at ala.org/ala/acrlbucket/is/iscommittees/webpages/mentoring/ismentoring.cfm

ACRL/IS Networking at ALA

Want to network with other instruction librarians at ALA this year? Come to the ACRL Instruction Section Soiree, 5:30 to 7:00pm on Friday, June 27 on the patio of the Tangerine Grill & Patio at The Anabella Hotel (1030 W. Katella Avenue). Please bring money for food and drinks.

The Tangerine Grill & Patio is conveniently located across the street from the Disneyland Resort, and is within easy walking distance from the Anaheim Convention Center (approximately 0.3 miles; 5 minutes walk). Attendees requiring transportation (including those with disabilities) are encouraged to use the ART (Anaheim Resort Transit) shuttle. Shuttles run every 20 minutes, and stop at the Anabella Hotel and the Anaheim Convention Center.

RSVP to Kimberley Wilcox (kwilcox@apu.edu) by June 20. Please include your name, institution, address, e-mail address, and a note indicating whether this is your first IS soiree, and whether you would like another IS member ("host") to provide introductions to other IS members at the soiree.
