Changes in Digital Reference Leadership at UCLA and Statewide

Joseph Yue, YRL CRIS, is the new Director of Digital Reference for UCLA replacing Elaine Adams. As Director, Joseph serves as the local campus administrator for UCLA’s participation in the Ask a UC Librarian collaborative service, chairs the local Digital Reference Steering Committee, and represents Digital Reference at Public Service Council meetings.

The UCLA Digital Reference Steering Committee composition has also changed. Members Cheryl Bartel (Biomed RICS) and Susan Minobe (YRL CRIS) are moving on to other endeavors after more than two years service. Many thanks to both of them, and to former committee member Richard Davidon (retired), for their hard work and creative ideas. New steering committee members include Rikke Ogawa (Biomed RICS) and Michelle Jacobs (College). Elaine Adams will continue on the steering committee as the liaison between UCLA and the HOPS Digital Reference Common Interest Group (CIG).

Elaine will continue to serve as co-chair of the HOPS Digital Reference CIG, alongside a new co-chair, Ken Firestein (UC Davis). Ken Furuta, who served as co-chair with Elaine since July 2006, is now serving on the HOPS IM Task Force to explore using IM in a collaborative setting to provide reference service.
