Announcing the Publication of College Libraries and the Teaching/Learning Process: Selections from the Writings of Evan Ira Farbe Earlham College Libraries and the Earlham College Press have announced the publication of College Libraries and the Teaching/Learning Process: Selections from the Writings of Evan Ira Farber. This 272-page hardbound volume, edited by David Gansz, contains selections from Evan Farber's writings and talks, many of which helped shape thinking about academic library service over the past forty years. In addition, Farber has added prefatory comments on the context for each piece and reflections on the ideas presented. The volume includes pieces on "the university-library syndrome," the role of the college library, the importance of bibliographic instruction, and the necessity for collaboration between the library and the teaching faculty-- perhaps the central focus of Evan Farber's role as library director at Earlham from 1962 to 1994. There are seven pieces never before published including "The Library in Undergraduate Education," written in 1985 for the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. This piece of 21 pages is an important statement on the nature of college libraries in the last twenty years of the twentieth century. The volume begins with a Preface by David Gansz (Edison Community College, Piqua OH) and an Introduction by Richard Hume Werking (U.S. Naval Academy), and concludes with an interview of Farber by Scottie Cochrane (Denison University). The volume is available for $29 plus $6.95 for shipping and handling from the Earlham College Bookstore, Drawer 7, Earlham College, Richmond, IN 47374. ISBN:978-1-117-18-1, OCLC: 135339476
