Library Human Resources
Purpose & Goals

The Library Human Resources (LHR) Department is a support unit within the UCLA Library and provides services to individuals and the organization. LHR staff members administer human resources activities and functions in consultation with the University Librarian and other library administrators as well as other campus departments.

Purpose

In support of the library’s mission, the Library Human Resources (LHR) department coordinates human resources programs and services for the UCLA Library and its employees. Specific areas of responsibility include: staffing and recruitment, student employment, benefits, payroll, classification, compensation, diversity and equal employment opportunity, learning and development, organizational development, workplace health and safety, and employee and labor relations.

The LHR Department works cooperatively with the Academic Personnel Office, Campus Human Resources, and other campus departments to provide library managers and employees with information, solutions, advice, and guidance on human resources issues.

LHR’s eight staff members are available to consult on human resources issues with managers and employees within the UCLA Library and other campus libraries.

Strategic Directions

LHR staff work collaboratively with library managers and employees to:

  • create human resources services and programs that increase the effectiveness of the library by enabling employees to better serve the library’s valued customers.
  • recruit, retain, and develop a talented and diverse workforce rich in a wide variety of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies.
  • invest in individuals and the organization by providing opportunities for learning and professional growth for all employees and the organization as a whole.
  • foster an atmosphere of involvement, commitment, creativity, innovation, challenge, and fun.
  • create a culture of trust and mutual respect, equal opportunity, fair treatment, open communication, and personal accountability.
  • employ technology, processes, and methods to enhance service, communication, and productivity.
