Pre-production duties include:

• Counting negatives selected for digitization.
• Counting the accompanying metadata to be captured, such as labeled sleeves and inserts.
• Creating work orders that include the negative and metadata counts using an MS Excel spreadsheet template.
• Preparing the negatives for delivery to the vendor . Maintaining and archiving work order files.

Post-production duties include:

• Quality control checking: recounting the negatives to verify all items were returned from vendor.
• Reboxing the negatives in archival boxes in preparation for shipment to the nitrate vault.

Duties:This position will be within the Scholarly Communication and Licensing Unit, located in YRL, and will have two distinct primary tasks:

1)       Assist a working group led by the Copyright and Licensing Librarian to redevelop a web presence on the UCLA Library dedicated to the understanding and employment of the Fair Use exception to copyright law, built around the new “Code of Best Practices in Fair Use for Academic and Research Libraries.” Web design skills are not necessary, but would be beneficial; the work is primarily searching for relevant materials, checking links, and helping arrange and sort materials in optimal ways.

2)     Assist with inputting cost data into Serials Solutions, our Electronic Resource Management Systems (ERMS), using data from voyager, the library’s integrated library system (ILS), and payment information, so that cost data analysis can be performed on electronic resources.  If time allows, applicant may also be trained to process invoices in ILS. The position will also include various other projects and duties within the Scholarly Communication and Licensing unit, as appropriate.

The incumbent also performs some minimum level cataloging of monographic e-resources in the MARC format and following Anglo-American Cataloging Rules.
