Who is eligible for UCLA Library employment?

UCLA Library student jobs are available to currently registered UCLA students only. UCLA Extension students are not eligible for Library employment. To maintain eligibility, students must remain registered throughout their employment with the Library. Student status will be verified by accessing the UCLA Student Information System. If a student graduates or loses student status, they will no longer be eligible for student employment. All employees must have the legal right to work in the United States. Upon hire, employees will be required to provide proof of legal right to work in the U.S.

How often are new jobs posted?

The UCLA Library Human Resources Office posts available student jobs on a daily basis online on the UCLA Library Employment Website, VIEW JOB OPENINGS. Jobs remain posted online until they have been filled. Work-Study positions are also available.

How do I apply for a Student Job at the UCLA Library?

The UCLA Library utilizes an online application system. No hard copy, e-mailed, or faxed applications will be accepted. You can apply for a job from any computer with Internet access. If you do not have a computer with Internet access, you may use any of the computers located in the various UCLA Libraries on campus. Click here for UCLA Libraries Map. If you need assistance in completing the online student job application, please contact the Library Human Resources Office (LHR) at (310) 825-7947 or come to the LHR Office, Room 11617, Young Research Library between the hours of 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is no need to make an appointment.

HOW TO APPLY FOR A STUDENT JOB:

  1. Access the Internet and review student job openings. VIEW JOB OPENINGS. Carefully review the duties and the required skills and knowledge of each job and determine if you are qualified for the position. Select 3 positions you are interested in. Write down the Job Code Numbers of the positions as you will be required to reflect the Job Code Numbers on the Online Application. Keep a copy of the job description for the job opening you have applied for, in the event you are called for an interview.
  2. Access the ONLINE APPLICATION and complete the entire application. Insert the Job Code Numbers of the jobs you are interested in. List all job skills and experience you posses that qualify you for the position. It is extremely important to complete the availability schedule portion of the application as the library is committed to working around your class schedule. Please indicate the hours you are available to work, the hours you are in class and the hours you are not available to work.
  3. Submit your application. Submitting a resume is optional, if you wish to submit one, you can e-mail jobs-hr@library.ucla.edu and include your resume as an attachment or you can deliver it to the Library Human Resources Office, Young Research Library, Room 11617.

What happens after I submit my application?

Once your application is received and your student employment eligibility status is verified, your application will be forwarded to the hiring supervisor/department. If your experience meets the department's criteria, you will be called in for an interview. Due to the high volume of applications we receive, you may not hear back from a specific department. In addition, each department has different hiring needs, so the length of the hiring process will vary depending on the position. Therefore, your patience in hearing back from a specific department is greatly appreciated. If you do not hear back from a hiring supervisor within 2 weeks, you may assume that other applicants with stronger backgrounds and skills were selected. You may at this time apply to other UCLA Library jobs by resubmitting an application online.

When you apply for a job online you will receive a confirmation page indicating that your application was successfully submitted into our automated recruitment tracking system. If you do not receive this confirmation notice, please contact the Library Human Resources Office immediately. Please keep a copy of the confirmation page for your future reference.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • If your application is not complete, your application will not be processed.
  • Meeting the minimum qualifications for a particular job does not guarantee you will be selected for an interview.
  • The UCLA Library will make very effort to process and refer all applications received to the appropriate hiring supervisor/department in a timely manner in order for it to receive full consideration.

What if I need help?

Library Human Resources is available to assist individuals who need help completing the online application, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Individuals with disabilities are given reasonable accommodations with the application, interview and employment process upon request. Please contact the Library Human Resources Office, (310) 825-7947 for details.

How do I prepare for an interview?

If you are called for an interview, make sure you find out who you are interviewing with, the time and the location. You should also ask for a phone number incase you need to contact them to cancel or reschedule an interview. It is optional to bring a resume and letters of recommendation with you.
