Commuter Transportation Assistance During MTA Strike Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) mechanics went on strike October 14, and MTA’s bus drivers and train operators are honoring the picket lines. The MTA strike does not affect Metrolink commuter train service or smaller bus agencies like Big Blue Bus and Culver CityBus. This strike will affect thousands of commuters including many UCLA staff, faculty and students. Campus Transportation Services provides this advise if you currently need a ride: If you normally commute to campus via MTA and need a ride, log onto www.ridematch.info for assistance in forming carpools with other Bruins or people from your neighborhood. [Commuters without Internet access can also obtain ridesharing information by calling 1.800.COMMUTE and selecting Option 3.] You can register online by submitting your contact information and your home and work locations. To ensure confidentiality, the database does not list a person’s home street address in the results. Campus Transportation Services asks for your assistance if you can provide a ride: We are looking to the UCLA community to lend a helping hand to our staff, faculty and students affected by this strike. If you are willing to provide temporary rides to UCLA-bound MTA commuters, please go to www.ridematch.info and submit your commuting information. You may be contacted by a Bruin needing to get to campus. You can then remove yourself from the database as soon as the MTA strike is over. Thank you for your assistance in this effort. This new website, www.ridematch.info, is joint partnership among all five county transportation agencies: MTA, Orange County Transportation Authority, Riverside County Transportation Commission, San Bernardino Associated Governments and Ventura County Transportation Commission. All of these agencies share and maintain the online rideshare database, which provides regional contacts, maps and other resources needed for commuters to initiate rideshare relationships. Currently, there are more than 300,000 commuters registered in the database, with more added every day. For links to other transportation options please visit www.transportation.ucla.edu. For questions, contact transportation@ts.ucla.edu or call (310)206-7565.
