Uniform Titles at UCLANovember 1997When entering original records in OCLC, all UCLA libraries conform to national standards and practice for uniform titles. However, other than the Clark and the Law libraries, the other cataloging centers deviate from national standards in some cases within ORION. The following is a list of the existing deviations, in effect as of 1996: 130: for translations entered under title, SEL changes the 130 _0 to 240 00 to prevent it from displaying. Biomed deletes the 130 and adds a 730 to the record instead. 240 10: East Asian and Biomed change all 240 10 to 240 00. Except for legal publications, music, and, on a case-by-case basis, "voluminous" authors: URL and SEL change the 240 10 to 240 00. This change affects translations, non-voluminous authors, etc. SEL has historically deleted "form" uniform titles (e.g., Works). N.B. SEL continues to make the 500 "Translation" note, although LC no longer does so, in order to compensate for the decision not to display the 240 field for translations in ORION. When the new ORION2 system is functional, ACC will re-examine the uniform title issue. |
